A sailor costume is a simple but stylish option for Halloween.You might be able to create the look from materials you already have, or you could purchase them cheaply at a used clothing store.White or blue pants are required for the basic look.A sailor collar and a simple cap are also possible.
Step 1: To make a pattern, use a piece of paper.

Step 8: You can choose a shirt.
There are a variety of ways sailors can look.A long-sleeve, white v-neck shirt is the basic option.A dark blue look is also possible.A baggy white shirt with a wide neck is also an option.There is a close connection between this look and a sailor.If you want a more casual or less hot costume, a short sleeve shirt is an option.Two blue stripes can be sewed around the cuff of the shirt.A white shirt with blue or black horizontal stripes is a good choice if you want to look like a sailor.If you don't have a striped shirt, you can draw the stripes on with a marker.The stripes should be about 12 inch thick and 2 inches apart.

Cut the strip to fit your head measurement.Circle it around your head to make sure it is the right size.As needed, cut a longer strip.Attach the strip to the circle.A box of cereals is a good option.
Step 14: Attach the coffee filter to the circle.
Place the coffee filter inside the cardboard circle on the table or counter.Attach the filter to the cardboard circle with 4 to 5 staplers.
Step 15: White fabric or paper is wrapped around the cardboard.
The wrap should extend past each side of the cardboard.The extra should be folded over the rim of the cardboard.Make sure it stays folded by glueing it in place.You want the hat to be all white, so make sure the cardboard isn't visible.Either use thick paper or fabric or make it double thick with two layers.You could use more fabric from this shirt if you used a white shirt to cut out the collar.
Step 16: The bottom of the coffee filter should be pushed through.
The portion of the coffee filter that you stapled to the cardboard will be the top of your hat.Allow the glue to dry before putting the hat on.
