How to connect a condensate pump to a dehumidifier?

If you have a condensate pump in your basement, you can use it as a drain. The pump will always have power if you plug them into the same outlet. If the drain full sensor is normally closed and the safety switch is NC, they are functionally interchangeable. We want the dehumidifier to keep running until the pump fails, so we will wire it up.

I use a Little Giant pump and a Dehumidifier from North Carolina. You may want to verify your setup with a multimeter.A small DC power supply is required if they are not both NC or NO.

You can find the wires going to the sensor by opening the dehumidifier.Cut the sensor off, drill a hole in the side of the shell, and extend the leads with wire.

You can run this wire to your pump by connecting the leads to the low voltage lines.

To connect the flexible hose to the back of the dehumidifier, you have to run it from there. The clear tubing has hose fitting on both sides, so it screws on to the back of the dehumidifier and into the street elbow. If it is easier, you could use another hole on the pump.

Test the safety cut-off by removing one of the leads from the dehumidifier. The drain should come on and the dehumidifier should stop.
