How To Cope With Wearing a Bra at a Young Age

You're taking puberty by leaps and bounds because your friends are all flat chested.If you need to wear a bra at an early age, you don't have to feel embarrassed or self-conscious.Everyone will catch up to you when people develop at different rates.You don't have to do it on your own.Learn about what is happening with your body with the help of your friends and family.

Step 1: Take a measurement of your chest.

If you wear the right size of bra, you will be more comfortable wearing one.Measure yourself with a measuring tape and wrap it around your chest.It should rest snug without slipping down.In inches, write down this measurement.To get to the nearest inch, round up.5 is added to this number.This will be the size of your chest or band.)

It can be nerve-racking if someone is teasing you.Ignore it if you can.Sometimes people tease because they are curious, or they don't understand what is happening.You could try to come up with a quick comeback to show how mature you are.Talk to your teacher or trusted adult if teasing continues for more than a day or two.You don't have to feel like you are a target just because your body is growing.When you talk to them, be calm.They may not take you as seriously if you are defensive and angry.You can convey your feelings better if you are calm.

Step 8: People should stop snapping your bra.

Step 9: If you need to change your clothes, go for privacy.

Step 10: The playground has a Tuck in your shirt on it.

If you are swinging upside down on the monkey bars, your shirt may reveal your bra.If you have a revealing situation, Tuck in your shirt.

Step 11: A sports bra is required for PE.

Extra support for your breasts might be required in PE class.You might bounce up and down when you run or jump.You will be more comfortable when you wear a sports bra.

Step 12: Keep in touch with your best friend.

You can find an adult that you trust, such as your mom, aunt or older sister.You might want to talk about the changes your body is going through.If you want to talk with a woman who has experience wearing a bra, talk to your dad.Start the conversation by saying that you want to talk.You should tell them that you have questions about your body and about growing up.When did you first wear a bra?

Step 16: The conversation should be kept private.

Ask the person to keep the conversation private.Some people are excited for you to start puberty and become a woman.This could be embarrassing for you.Ask your adult not to talk about how you are growing up.

Step 17: If you have siblings, ask for help.

If you have a rambunctious little brother or sister, they might not realize that there should be boundaries.Make sure your siblings don't tease you if you feel embarrassed about wearing a bra.If you don't want to talk to your parents about this, your trusted adult can speak for you.

Step 18: There is a book about your development.

Step 19: You can learn more about body image and the media.

Body image is how a person sees themselves and their body.You can think about what a normal body looks like when you see distorted images.There is no single perfect body and every girl and woman is shaped differently.Some websites talk about body image and the media, such as MediaSmarts.ca and KidsHealth.org.

Step 20: Visit your doctor.

It's helpful to talk to your doctor about your body.Private questions will give you honest answers without making you feel self-conscious.
