How To Install a CD ROM or DVD Drive

Are you going to upgrade your drive or install another one?The article will show you how to do that.

Step 1: If you want to use the CD/DVD drive, you need to read the manual that came with your computer.

Step 2: If you want to discharge static electricity, wear an anti-static wrist band.

Step 3: Turn the computer off.

Step 4: The computer case should be opened.

Step 5: Remove the power and data cables from the CD/DVD drive.

Step 6: Remove the screws from the CD/DVD drive.

Step 7: Remove the drive bay cover if you want to install another optical drive.

Step 8: The jumpers should be adjusted on the back of the drive.

The default setting for most drives is "Master".The jumper setting should be "Slave" if the CD/DVD drive is an extra one.

Step 9: The drive bay on the computer has a CD/DVD drive.

Step 10: Do not cut the cables.

Step 11: The data and power cables need to be connected to the CD/DVD drive.

Pin 1 is the red edge on the CD/DVD drive.The drive should be connected to the 4-pin power connector.Align the notch on the drive.Then connect the long one to the drive.Attach the cable before securing the drive into the bay.

Step 12: You need to connect the audio cable to the drive.

It runs from the drive's audio-out pins to your sound card.

Step 13: The computer case needs to be closed.

Step 14: The computer needs to be turned on.
