How To Put a Bed Frame Together

You can pick a design that best matches your bedroom with the thousands of different styles of bed frames. You can put most of the instructions for the bed frame together using the same methods.Make sure to consult your instruction manual for model specific information if you get stuck.

Step 1: The frame legs should be across from each other.

The left leg and the right leg make up most metal bed frames.Enough space is left in the center of the mattress for these legs to be crossed.

Step 2: Attach the legs to the feet.

There are short beams from each of the metal legs.Attach the plastic or rubber feet to the leg if you are assembling an immobile bed frame.Roller wheels are included in a mobile bed frame. Some models may require you to secure them with a screw and nut, but most bed frames don't.

Step 3: Pull the arms out of the legs.

Most metal bed frames have their side arms inside the legs.Pull the arms out of the legs and make sure they are extended. If the legs don't have attached sidearms, you may need to attach them separately using screws and nuts.

Step 4: The side arms should be locked together.

Push the nubs through the small holes on the side arms to connect them.If your side arms only have holes, you may need to connect them with screws and nuts. You should use holes that correspond to the size of your mattress when assembling a bed frame.

Step 5: If necessary, attach a center support beam.

Some metal bed frames that connect the side arms with a metal plate have a center support leg.Make sure you connect any necessary wheels or feet to the leg, then lay it across the center of the bed frame. If your side arms or legs have grooves in the center, it's a good idea to slide the ends of your center leg into them.Attach them using screws and nuts.

Step 6: If necessary, place protective caps on the edge of the bed frame.

If your bed frame leaves exposed metal on the corners, cover them with protective caps.If your bed frame has exposed metal, cover it with multiple layers of duct tape.If you run into the bed frame, you should cover these spots.

Step 7: If you want, connect a headboard or a baseboard.

Some metal bed frames have something on them.Attach any included legs to the board using screws and nuts if yours does. You can slide the board's legs into the slots on the main bed frame for some metal frames. You will need to line the legs up with holes on the bed frame and attach them using screws and nuts.

Step 8: Place the bed against the wall.

Place the taller wooden frame against a back wall or other sturdy surface for easier assembly.Since moving an assembled bed frame is not an easy task, it may be possible to place it against the wall. The side that everyone will see is the finished side of the frame. There are some headboards that can stand or lean on their own.If you can't, grab someone else to hold it in place.

Step 9: Attach the side rails to the bed.

There are small holes near the base of your mattress. An equal amount should be on the left and right side.Attach one of your bed frame's side rails to each side of the headboard to make sure the finished side points out. Some side rails will fall into place, but others will need to be secured with screws and nuts.If you need to secure your side rails with screws, look for a small opening near the end of each rail.Attach the screws to the opening with nuts.Attach your side rail to the screws if you need to hook it onto the rails. If you need to secure your side rails with metal brackets, you have to screw them to their respective side rail.

Step 10: The side rails need to be connected to the baseboard.

The same method can be used for most wooden bed frames.Since your baseboard is shorter, the grooves or holes may look different and the screws or nuts needed to secure it may be smaller. The unfinished side of your frame should point in.

Step 11: Attach the side rails to the board or beam guides.

There are small panels, holes, or ridges on some side rails. You may need to attach guides using screws and nuts if your bed frame does not have them.Attach your support guides after you drill a hole in the wood and look for markings along your side rails.Attach the support guides to the bed frame at the same distances if your side rails do not have markings.

Step 12: If necessary, add support legs to the beams.

Before connecting the center supports to the rest of the frame, make sure to attach the support legs. For some bed frames, you can simply screw the leg into the board or beam. You may need to drill a hole in the support and attach the leg with a nut.

Step 13: The side rails should be connected to the center boards.

If your bed frame has wooden or metal support beams, lay them across the frame at the same distances.Place the wooden support panels on top of the frame. If you have to, secure your supports with screws and nuts.If your bed frame comes with both center support beams and panels, lay your panels on top.

Step 14: The frame needs to be checked with a level and tape measure.

To make sure the bed frame isn't slanted, place a level on your side rails and center supports.Use a tape measure to make sure the frame is the right size for your mattress.
