I'm replacing the pilot light assembly on a gas fireplace after removing the old line from the valve, there's no indication that thread sealant was used on the original installation.

Is there a situation where you wouldn't use thread seal tape?

Most pilot lines use aluminum tubing with no pipe dope.Flare fitting have been used for the pilot line. The actual pilot tubing is not used in the use of thread seal tape.
