You can use cotton or jersey knit fabric. It can have a small print on it.Try some stretch velvet instead.

Step 3: The right side of the rectangle should be folded in half.

You will turn the fabric inside out after you sew it.

Step 4: The hair tie should be inside the rectangle.

To get the fabric to wrap around the hair tie, you will need to suck it up.The long, raw edges of the rectangle should be outside the hair tie when you are done. The folded part should be inside. The hair tie should be sandwiched between the folded rectangle and the right sides of the fabric.

Step 5: To keep the fabric in place, pin the corners together.

The right corner should be pinned to the left corner. The left corner should be pinned to the right corner. The fabric can be pinned along the long edge.

Step 6: Using a 12 inch seam allowance, sew along the long edge.

Use a thread color that matches the fabric's color. It is possible to do this by hand or on a sewing machine.Don't put the narrow ends together. You should have a tube around your hair tie when you are done. You may have to squeeze the tube to fit. When you are done, remove the pins.

Step 7: The right sides of the fabric should be facing out if the tube is turned inside out.

There is a safety pin on one of the narrow edges. It can be Tucked inside the tube.Pull the safety pin through the tube if you crunch as much fabric as you can.Continue until the safety pin reaches the other side of the tube. The right side of the fabric should face you, and the seam should be on the inside. The safety pin should be removed when you are done.

Step 8: The raw edges should be Tucked into the tube by 12 inch.

You should do this on both sides of the tube. When you are done, this will give you a nicer seam.

It is possible to do this by hand or on a sewing machine.Don't sew the narrow ends shut just yet.

Step 14: To hide the edge, turn the fabric tube inside.

Attach a safety pin to one of the narrow ends.Pull the elastic through the tube and crunch as much fabric as you can onto the safety pin. When the safety pin pops out on the other side, keep doing this. The seam should be inside the tube, and the right side of the fabric should not be visible. When you are done, remove the safety pin.

Step 15: Cut a long piece of elastic.

Try to find something that is about 14 wide.

Step 16: Attach a safety pin to the elastic.

It's important that the elastic is attached to it.Feed the elastic through the fabric tube and this will hold it in place.

Step 18: The elastic has to be pushed through the fabric tube.

When turning the fabric tube inside out, use the safety pin as a guide.

Step 19: The elastic has two ends.

You can see the two ends of the elastic by spreading the tube apart.Pin the elastic ends together with a regular sewing pin after removing the safety pins.

Step 20: The two ends of the elastic should be sewed together using a 12 inch seam allowance.

If you overlap the two ends of the elastic, you can sew them down.Don't sew on the fabric. When you are done, remove the pins.

Step 21: The edges of the fabric tube should be Tucked by 12 inch.
