How To Stretch Rubber Boots

It's a good idea to wear rubber boots to keep your feet dry and free of mud. They can be rigid and painful if they don't fit right. You can stretch out rubber boots so they fit.Ice can be used to stretch out the toe.A boot stretcher can be used for a full stretch of the foot.

Step 1: 14 full water is what you need to fill 2 sealable plastic bags.

There is plenty of room for the water to expand if you use 1 gallon bags. The bags are about 14 of the way full if the water is poured into them. The inside of your boots can get wet or dirty if you don't use clean bags.

Step 2: Seal the bags shut by squeezing the air out of them.

Seal the bag until it is almost completely sealed by connecting the plastic seal at the top.If you press on the bags with your hands, they'll fit into your boots more easily.Seal the bags completely once you pressed the extra air out of them.Water won't leak out of the bags if they're upside down.

Step 3: Each of your boots has a bag in it.

Roll the bag up so it is narrow and slide it all the way to the front of the boot. The bag should be adjusted so that it rests on the bottom of the boot.Add the other bag full of water to the boot.

Step 4: Put the boots in the freezer.

The bags should be in the front of the toe.If you keep them in the freezer for at least 8 hours, the water can fully freeze and expand inside of the boots. After that, take them out of the freezer and let them thaw out.If you have boots in the freezer, make sure there is no space for food or other items.

Step 5: The boots have bags of frozen water in them.

Take the bag of water with you when you reach into 1 of your boots.Pull it out of the boot so you don't damage it.Remove the bag from the other boot.

Step 6: To keep the stretch, Stuff the boots with newspaper.

Once the rubber material of the boots is stretched out, you can try them on to see how they fit.Stuff them with newspaper, scraps of fabric, or other material if you are satisfied with the stretch. There isn't any extra space if you put enough material in the inside of your boots. If the boots aren't stretched enough, you can try to expand them even further. You should leave the boots filled with newspaper until you plan to wear them.

Step 7: Put on a pair of thick socks.

When you heat them up, use a thick pair of socks to stretch out the rubber material. You can walk around in the boots after you heat them up if you put them on.If the boots are so tight that you can't wear a pair of thick socks, wear thin socks.

Step 8: If you want to loosen the material, run a blow dryer over the boots.

Take a blow dryer that is set to high-heat and hold it away from the boots. To loosen the rubber material in the boots, keep the blow dryer moving over them.Keep heating the boots until they loosen up.If you want the toe or the heel to fit more comfortably, focus on the tight areas. If you get the blow dryer too close to the rubber, you will melt it.Don't heat them up for more than 30 minutes at a time.

Step 9: Hold the blow dryer over your feet.

While moving the blow dryer back and forth over the surface of the boots, raise your toes and flex your heel to help the material stretch out to form a more comfortable fit.As the rubber warms up, it will loosen and become more comfortable.

Step 10: Walk for 30 minutes to stretch out the rubber.

You can help break the boots into their new fit by walking for a long time. The rubber will retain its shape as it cools.

Step 11: There is a stretcher in the toe area of the boot.

A boot stretcher is a device with a wooden block shaped like a boot and a handle that rotates to open it.The stretcher should be completely closed and slid into the boot at the front of the toe.The handle can be turned clockwise to close it.You can find boot stretchers at your local cobbler, leather supply store or online.

Step 12: Open the boot stretcher by rotating the handle clockwise.

Once the stretcher is in the boot, turn the handle to the right to open it.When the boot stretcher feels tight, give it a few good turns to stretch out the rubber. It can tear if you stretch it too quickly. If it becomes difficult to rotate, turn the handle more than 6 times.

Step 13: The stretcher needs to be left in the boot for 8 hours.

The rubber boot should be placed on a flat surface. For at least 8 hours, leave it undisturbed so that the material can loosen and retain its shape.

Step 14: Put the boot on the stretcher to see if it fits.

Carefully close the boot stretcher by rotating the handle to the left.Take it out of the boot when you can't rotate it anymore.Take the boot off and walk around to see how it feels.Use the boot stretcher on the other boot if you are satisfied with the stretch. It can take a long time to stretch out the rubber.
