How To Use fabric to cover a box.

It is possible to cover a box with fabric and make it look like you love it.If you want to leave something out in your home or office, cover the inside and outside of the box with pretty fabric. If you have a box with a lid, try covering both the bottom and the top with fabric to coordinate your look.

Step 1: 2 rectangular pieces of fabric are larger than the bottom of the box.

The table has the back side up.Place the box on top of it.To add an extra inch to each side of the fabric, use a ruler. The fabric needs to be cut out.Cut another piece the same way.

Step 2: Take a look at the sides of the box.

To find the height of the box, use a ruler.Add 1 inch to the number times 2.The long side and short side of the box are measured.Add 2 inches to each number by multiplying them by 2.If the height of the box is 13 cm, divide it by 2 to get 25 cm and then cut the fabric to that height. If the sides measure 8 inches (20 cm) and 4 inches (10 cm), divide each by 2 to get 16 inches. To get 26 inches, add them together and cut the fabric to that length.

Step 3: Cut a long piece of fabric based on your measurements.

The height and length of the fabric can be calculated using the 2 totals from your measurements.Cut it with fabric scissors.Measure up to the height of the box and mark it on the fabric with a ruler. To mark it on the wrong side of the fabric, use a pen or pencil.

Step 4: There is a glue on the inside of the box.

The box has a spray sticker on it.Once it's tacky, not sticky, lay the fabric inside the box, centering it as you can.It will go up the sides of the box.Attach the extra fabric at the corners by folding them over.If plain school glue doesn't work well, you can watered down the glue with equal parts glue and water. It is a good option.

Step 5: The rectangular piece should be covered by the bottom of the box.

The box needs to be flipped over.Glue is added to the bottom of the box.If it's tacky, center the rectangle on the bottom of the box and smooth it out with your fingers.Attach glue to the sides of the box at the bottom and then fold the fabric over to hang on all sides.Glue the corners in place after folding them over.

Step 6: Take a long strip of fabric and line it up.

Wrap the long piece of fabric around the box.If you want the fabric to go over one side to the next, line up a short edge. The fabric should overhang the bottom by 1 inch.Make a mark on the fabric with the top of the box.You want the fabric to reach the bottom of the box with no overhang.

Step 7: Put the piece in place.

The overhang is the one end.Press that piece into place.Smooth the fabric over with glue on the adjacent side.Continue until you get to the outer sides.Paint or spray glue on each side at a time and smooth the fabric over before moving on to the next side.If you want, you can place the fabric on the table and move the box.Pull the fabric taut around the corners. When you reach the first edge that you glue down hanging over one side, fold the piece you have leftover to make a smooth line.Attach it to the corner of the box by folding it just enough.

Step 8: Attach the fabric to the box with glue.

Glue to one side.Smooth the fabric along the side by wrapping it over the top.You can do the same on the other side.Glue the corner fabric under the rest of the fabric. You may want to practice folding.

Step 9: The overhang should be Glued into place.

The box needs to be flipped over.Press the fabric into place with glue on the bottom edge.On the other side, do the same thing.Glue the corners down by folding them into the fabric.Glue and fold the edges together. You can glue a ribbon along the top that folds over the edge.

Step 10: To trim the fabric, measure it against the box.

The table has the back side facing upwards. You can see how much you need by pulling up the sides of the box.To fold over the edges, leave about 1 inch at the top.Cut the extra fabric with fabric scissors. You can use a measuring tape to measure the box.To get the length, measure down one side, across the back, and up the other side. The other way to get the width is to do the same thing.Add 2 inches to each measurement and then cut a piece of that size out of the fabric.Work on the bottom without the lid.

Step 11: You can spray or paint the box.

If you're using spray glue, put it on the bottom of the box in an even layer and then leave it for a few moments to become tacky. If you're using liquid glue, use a sponge brush to paint it on.Try mixing school glue with water in equal parts.Mod Podge is a popular brand of glue.

Step 12: The box should be placed in the middle of the fabric.

The box should be centered on the fabric. It should be facing up if you place it on the wrong side of the fabric.Hold it down for a few seconds, then turn it over.To smooth out the fabric, use your fingers.Don't leave any bubbles or wrinkling in the fabric.

Step 13: Attach the fabric to the long sides of the box.

Start with either of the long sides. You can spray on a layer of glue or paint it on with a sponge brush.Pull the fabric up from the bottom with glue. You can smooth it out with your fingers.Do the same with the other side.

Step 14: The fabric should be Glued to the inside top edge.

You can either paint or spray the glue.Press it into place by folding the fabric over the edge at the top.Go all the way to the corner with the fabric. On the other side, repeat.

Step 15: Glue the short sides in place.

There is a thin layer of glue on one short side.Pull the excess fabric towards the box and press in the sides of the main piece to make triangles.Line up the edges of the triangles behind the main piece of fabric. You might need to work a bit to get this perfect. You can either cut the fabric or tuck it in.On the other side, do the same thing.

Step 16: Glue the flaps to the ends.

There is glue on the inside edge.First, start with one end.Pull the fabric over the edge with your fingers. To make sure it stays, hold it there for a few seconds.Attach the top edge to the other side.

Step 17: The process for the lid should be repeated.

The lid will fit over the top of the box.You can add fabric the same way you did at the bottom. Before putting them together, let the top and bottom dry.
