The old quarter is one of the city's main tourist attractions, second only to the Panama Canal.The private and government sectors are working on it.An extension to the Cinta Costera maritime highway was built by President Martinelli around the Casco Antiguo.[32]

There were protests before the project was built.There was a lot of controversy surrounding the possibility that Casco Viejo would lose its World Heritage status.The List of World Heritage Sites in Danger was decided on June 28, 2012 by UNESCO.There is a citation needed.

The Historia General y Natural de Las Indias was published in 1535 and contains the first story about Panama.There are poets and novelists who were born in the city.[33]

Alfredo Sinclair is one of the most important Panamanian artists.One of the most important artistic collections in the country has been produced by him.His daughter has become a force in Panamanian art.One of the most well-known Panamanian artists is Guillermo Trujillo.Brooke Alfaro is an artist from Panama.Mario Calvit was one of the great painters in the country between the decades of 1950 and 1970.

In addition to these tourist attractions, Panama City offers many different options when it comes to hotel accommodations, including the first Waldorf Astoria hotel to open in Latin America, and many small boutique style hotels that have smaller numbers of guest rooms and offer a more intimate vacation.The nightlife in the city is centered in two neighborhoods.Tourists visiting the city can find a variety of bars and nightclubs in these neighborhoods.[34]

The Amador Causeway is one of the newer tourist areas in the city.The area is being developed as a nightlife destination.There is a station and museum open to the public at Culebra Point on the island of Naos.There is a new museum on the causeway.The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles were designed by Frank Gehry.The Parque Municipal Summit is outside the city limits.The Amador Convention Center is being built in a joint venture with a Panamanian company.The Panamanian ministry of Tourism wants the convention center to host 100 international events a year.There were plans to build a campus for the embassy of the People's Republic of China in Panama, however the plans were dropped due to criticism from the general public and fears that tourists could easily assume that Panama was.Varela said that Amador must have more value.

The United States State Department notes that there are some violent crimes in the city.The United States State Department warns tourists that they may be in violation of local Panamanian laws if they purchase counterfeit goods.Same sex marriage is not recognized by the government in the city, but there are laws in place to prevent discrimination against the LGBT community.36

Panama City has excelled in many sports throughout the 20th century.These sports have produced famous athletes such as Roberto Durn and Rod Carew.These sports are managed by clubs and associations in the city.The baseball team is called Panama Metro.There are many boxing training centers in the city.There are many football clubs.

There are four professional teams in the city.

There are two main stadiums in Panama City, the National Baseball Stadium and the Rommel Fernndez Stadium.The Roberto Durn Arena has a capacity of 18,000.

There are both public and private schools in the city.The majority of private schools are bilingual.The University of Panama is one of the major public universities.There are private universities in Panama, such as the Catlica Santa Mara La Antigua.The main campus of the Nova Southeastern University is in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, as well as the University of Oklahoma, the Central Texas University, and the Florida State University.

There are at least 14 hospitals and an extensive network of public and private clinics in Panama City.

The Tocumen International Airport is located on the eastern outskirts of the city.The Howard Air Force Base and Marcos A. Gelabert are the other airports that serve Panama City.The main hub for AirPanama is Marcos A. Gelabert Airport.The majority of flights are served by Tocumen.

There are frequent traffic jams in Panama City due to the high levels of private transport ownership.The Panama Metro, initially 14 km long and funded by an increase in taxes, began operation in 2004.40 and 41

There are buses in and out of the city at the bus terminal in Ancon.Bus service is used a lot in Panama.The terminal gets a lot of passengers from places like David and Chiriqui.International passengers from Central America can use the terminal.

Yellow taxis are available for transportation in Panama City.Taxis do not use a meter to measure fares, instead using a zone system that is published by the Autoridad de Transito y Transporte Terrestre, Panama's transit authority.Taxis used to be red.Taxi drivers charge more than usual.InDriver and Cabify are also used by many.Many taxi drivers in Panama City demanded the cessation of operations for the company.

The plaza is named after the workers and French engineers who worked on the Panama Canal.
