Question: Are Crate and Barrel Dishes Lead-Free?

The crate and barrel is made in Indonesia.

When tested with an XRF, not all Crate & Barrel dishware is negative for lead. The owner of this dish told me that it was purchased recently. There is no rule of thumb when it comes to lead-free plain white china.

Correct, the plate has lead, according to the label. You said in the article that it was negative for lead and arsenic.

America's Secret Epidemic is the name of the film I produced and directed about the hidden epidemic of lead exposure in America today. The business card I included in the post has nothing to do with the lead reading of the item. Each post has a picture of a dish with the reading noted.I don't have enough information about that piece to list more information.Sorry!

It's a good thing! That person asked a good question.I have been to the site several times and thought it was confusing.I have been looking for this comment for a long time.It might be me that made that comment. Thanks so much for what you do!Do you know anything about the crate barrel HUE plates?

Is there a reason you don't include products made in the US in your recommendations for lead free?

Hi!I have tested some of the products, but not all of them have been lead-free.Here is my XRF post.

Do you know if the bowl pictured has the SKU 673066?I bought a bowl yesterday.I am hoping that it was negative for lead and arsenic.I will return it if I can't be sure it has a non-detectable level of lead.Thank you for your reply and all of your work.

I contacted customer service at Crate and Barrel.I'm waiting for a reply with information about the lead content of the bowl. The answer will be posted here.

I am posting the response from Crate and Barrel. For detailed info on the bowl, please see my previous post.

Kris Scoville had a Deep Glass Pie Dish.

Here is the information I received.Hopefully this will help you in your shopping.Let me know if I can help with anything else.

When lead is present, some products are not listed with lead information. Most glass is not tested for lead content. It is called out for marketing reasons. Most ceramics are lead-free.When a ceramic is tested and the glaze has lead levels above the safety level, it will be called out.Our statement on lead in dinnerware holds true for ceramics used for food.

All of the ceramics that we sell at Crate and Barrel have been tested for lead and cadmium safety. The FDA sets very strict standards for lead and cadmium levels. We can't sell it if all of our dinnerware passes that.

California has more restrictions on lead than any other state.Every ceramic is tested for the more stringent California standards. Most of our dinnerware passes California standards, but those that don't are labeled with stickers to let customers in California know.

Can Crate and Barrel provide a lead-free pattern? We can't guarantee that a pattern is lead free. The test method used by the third party accredited lab is not sensitive enough to detect lead levels under.05 parts per million.

This is great. They are not talking about XRF detectible levels of lead.Based on what I have tested in the past 6 months to a year, their new stuff seems to be lead-free.

I would like to share my experience here.No one at the store or customer service knew what I was talking about when I started looking for lead-free dishes.

When I called the stores in California to inquire if they had any Prop 65 warnings hanging in the store for any of their dishes, they said that they did, in fact.I don't have my notes anymore, but I believe the warnings were for glass items.Maybe it's "Crystal glass" items?

It seems that if you call a California store, they will tell you if an item fails the Prop 65 test.

Is the owner of this plate able to tell us what it is?I have dinner plates from Crate & Barrel. There are scratches in the glaze of the Crate & Barrel "8" Bistro Bowl after I washed it with a brush with union fibers.I thought that I should send this for testing, but I realized that the scratches may be too small to get a good reading with the XRF instrument.

Is there any testing done on the last dish pictures?I'm interested in buying the gray colored one but want to make sure it's free of lead.

Have you tested the essential dinnerware collection or the hue white collection from crate and barrel?

Can you test the glasses from the crate and barrel?I would be more than happy to send you one, send a pick up order to a store of your choice, or email a gift card number to you so you can purchase yourself.Thank you so much. You are amazing.I like your work.

Thank you so much.I broke my leg and will be in a wheelchair for the next 8 or 10 weeks. You can follow the instructions here to send me something.

I sent you another message about the "Essentials" dishes.Do you know what the plate was called?Thank you.
