Michael left the next morning.She wants him to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with her family.Slowly, Michael becomes part of the family.Michael is driven to his mother's house byLeigh Anne.His mother is gone when he sees an eviction notice on the door.Some of her friends think that Collins might not be safe around Michael, but she disagrees.She asked Collins how she felt about it.Collins said that they can't just throw Michael out.When she tries to become Michael's legal guardian, she learns that he was taken from his drug-addicted mother at the age of seven and that no one knows her location.He was ranked in the 98th percentile for "protective instincts", despite scoring poorly on a career aptitude test.When Michael appears to be hesitant to use his strength and size while learning to play football, Leigh Anne tells him to protect his quarterback.Michael is able to play at the college level after that moment.To get in, he must meet the minimum grade point average in order for the Tuohys to hire a private tutor.
Leigh Anne talked to Michael's mother about adopting him.The mother wishes Michael the best, even though she seems unresponsive in the beginning.Michael is recruited by many prestigious schools.He talks to coaches and negotiates on his own.When Michael gets his grades high enough, he decides to attend the University of Mississippi, where Sean had played basketball and Leigh Anne had been a cheerleader.The NCAA investigator will look into the matter to see if the Tuohys influenced him to play for their alma mater.
Michael ran away before the interview was over and confronted Leigh Anne about her motives.He found his mother in Hurt Village.He was welcomed back by a gang leader who made sexually offensive insinuations about Collins and Leigh Anne.Michael battles with the gang leader when he threatens to go after them.Michael says he chose Ole Miss because his family goes to school there.Michael says farewell to the Tuohy family after being accepted into college.

Although based on a true story, The Blind Side has been criticized as presenting a white savior narrative in which Oher, an African-American male, is unable to overcome poverty and personal failure without the guidance of adoptive, white mother Tuohy.According to Jeffrey Montez de Oca of the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, charity operates as a signifying act of whiteness that obscures the social relations of domination that make charity possible.The Uncle Tom stereotype of African-American submission to white authority is perpetuated by the portrayal of Oher.[28]
Robin DiAngelo criticized The Blind Side's perpetuation of negative racial stereotypes in her book, White Fragility.She refers to a scene in which Oher returns to his old neighborhood and leaves when Tuohy rescues him.According to DiAngelo, the movie version of Oher has little "ability to learn" but is much "protective instinct", which is a scientifically nonsensical statement.[29]
Michael Oher dislikes the movie and takes exception to its portrayal of his intelligence.In his book, Oher wrote, "I felt like the movie portrayed me as dumb instead of as a kid who had never had consistent academic instruction and ended up thriving once he got it."Oher was annoyed by the film's claim that he didn't understand football.He said no when he was talking about watching his family teach him.I've been studying the game since I was a kid.Despite his displeasure with his portrayal in the movie Oher has stated that he likes the film's message of perseverance and the general treatment of the Tuohy family.I think they helped me get to this point.They're my family and I wouldn't be here without them.If you help someone and give them a chance, look where they can get to.[33]
